Guggul (Goo-gall) is a resin from a tree native to India. This resin has long been used in Ayurvedic medicine,

Three months of Guggul treatment resulted in lower levels of total cholesterol (average 24 percent) and serum triglycerides (average 23 percent reduction) in the majority of patients.

Blood lipids

Guggul is Responsible for lowering blood lipids.

Blood lipids (or blood fats) are lipids in the blood, either free or bound to other molecules. They are mostly transported in a protein capsule [citation needed], and the density of the lipids and type of protein determines the fate of the particle and its influence on metabolism. The concentration of blood lipids depends on intake and excretion from the intestine, and uptake and secretion from cells. Blood lipids are mainly fatty acids and cholesterol. Hyperlipidemia is the presence of elevated or abnormal levels of lipids and/or lipoproteins in the blood, and is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease.

It contains such ingredients which helps in the pain management in the chronic arthritis cases ,helps in the chronic fatigue syndrome ,helps to decrease high cholesterol levels ,helps to normalize disturbed menstrual cycles ,deceases body weight in obese persons ,good in all types of sprains & strains -increases painkiller action of the analgesics when used with them.

Guggulu rejuvenates the immune system and supports balanced cell production.  By reducing the levels of polyamines and prostaglandins that directly contribute to prostate problems and poor immune response, Guggulu promotes long-term prostate health.

                        GUGGUL (commiphora mukul)

Guggul is a highly valued botanical medicine used in Ayurveda, Indian system of medicine. It is used for rheumatoid arthritis, and lipid disorders. Described in detail the usefulness of this herb for treatment of obesity and other disorders of fat, including "coating and obstruction of channels".

Encouraged by the Ayurvedic description of this herb for lowering cholesterol, scientists have conducted clinical trials to test the effectiveness of this herb in disorders of lipid metabolism and for lowering weight. The research resulted in the development of a natural cholesterol lowering substance that is safer and more effective than many cholesterol-lowering drugs. Gugulipid was granted approval in India for marketing as a lipid lowering drug in 1986.

The principal constituents of Guggulu are manusumbionic acid and manusumbionic which confer significant protection against the development of atherosclerosis, a disease affecting the arterial blood vessel.  They increase plasma fibrinolytic activity which aids in blood-clotting and prevents foreign bodies from entering the body.  Manusumbionic acid and manusumbionic also increase leucocytes in the blood and stimulate phagocytosis which removes foreign bodies to fight infections.  Guggulu is also a thyroid tonic that promotes the glands enzymatic activity and improves its ability to absorb iodine, the essential trace mineral for thyroid hormone production.  By helping to normalize hormonal levels and exhibiting anti-inflammatory properties, Guggulu rejuvenates the immune system and supports balanced cell production.  By reducing the levels of polyamines and prostaglandins that directly contribute to prostate problems and poor immune response, Guggulu promotes long-term prostate health.
